”Red hot favourite wins again for the Midlands”

Solihull-based restaurant Rajnagar International scooped the Best Restaurant in the Midlands trophy for an unprecedented second time at The British Curry Awards held on Sunday 17th September. Britain's Top Ten curry restaurants were announced in front of more than 1,000 restaurant aficionados, celebrities, public figures, MPs and other high profile dignitaries.

The glittering ceremony was hosted by ITN news presenter, Alistair Stewart OBE at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. Gary Newbon, Ulrika Johnsson, James Wale, Rolf Harris, Peter Jones, Jim Rosenthal, Rhodri Williams, Andy Scott-Lee, Gary Cockerill and Tony Hicks were amongst the glitterati who attended. This year, the British Curry Awards presented culinary Goddess, author and presenter Madhur Jaffrey with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’

In an effort to find Britain’s Top 10 Regional Curry Restaurants, the British Curry Awards recognised, congratulated and honoured the contribution and extraordinary achievements of British Asian restaurateurs, who play a significant role in contributing to the nation’s economy and wealth on a national level. Awards were given to 100 publicly nominated Indian restaurants from the UK and within that 100, special recognition was awarded to the Top 10 Regional winners. All awards were adjudicated by an independent panel of food experts and this year the event received over 20,000 public nominations, making the event the most objective and representative curry awards of its kind.

Rajnagar International, which opened in 1987, has picked up many prestigious awards over the years and is also one of a very select number of Indian restaurants to be ‘highly recommended’ in the Michelin Restaurant Guide.

Owner, Dr. M. G. Moula Miah said: “This is really great news. To have won this award once was fabulous, but to win a second time shows we really must be doing something right. After last years award, we updated the restaurant to create something rather special for our customers to enjoy. I don’t know what we will be doing this year but we will certainly be having ‘a bit of a do’ later on, in order to celebrate.”

The British Curry Awards were held in association with Lloyds TSB Cardnet and has become the largest and most prestigious event of its kind in the world.
